Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm injection (ICSI) is an advanced procedure which further increases chances of conception and a better result during the IVF treatment. In this procedure, a single sperm cell is directly injected by a small pipette into the cytoplasm of the ovum directly by an expert embryologist under high magnification under sterile environment.
The embryo is then transferred into the incubator and kept for 2-3 days depending on the type of cycle. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus by the gynecologist similar to the IVF procedure. According to various studies, ICSI increases the chances of fertilization as the best quality sperm and ovum are selected for the procedure.
